Google Analytics Settings

To enable Google Analytics tracking – go to Courses->Settings, and under the Payment and Integration tab scroll down until you see the Google Analytics fields:

  • The Google Analytics ID is required to use Google Analytics. More info on how to obtain one can be found here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1008080#trackingID
  • The Set Domain Name field is used when you want to track multiple domains.  More info here: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/gaTrackingSite#multipleDomains
  • The Enable Tracking checkbox adds the standard Google Analytics code to all the site pages. If you are already using another Google Analytics plugin or if the tracking code is already on the theme being used then this is not necessary.
  • Enable Universal Analytics should always be used unless the site uses an old version of Google Analytics.
  • Anonymize IP Addresses can be checked for countries that requires it. More info https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2763052?hl=en
  • Check Track Purchases if you want to track each successful purchase. This is still in beta so results often vary and are sometimes inaccurate. The Google Analytics account should first be setup to make this work:

Tracking Purchases

If Track Purchases is checked, make sure that you have Ecommerce enabled on your Google Analytics account.

Enable Ecommerce for a view

You need to enable Ecommerce for each view in which you want to see the data.

  1. Sign in to Google Analytics.
  2. Click Admin, and navigate to the view you want.
  3. In the VIEW column, click Ecommerce Settings.
  4. Set Enable Ecommerce to ON.
  5. Click Save.

Find the reports

Ecommerce metrics (e.g. Transactions, Revenue, Ecommerce Conversion Rate) are available on the Ecommerce Explorer tab of many standard reports. You can also see Ecommerce-specific reports:

  1. Sign in to Google Analytics.
  2. Navigate to your view.
  3. Open Reports.
  4. Select Conversions > Ecommerce.

Google Analytics 4

Before October 2020, the default property type in your Google Analytics account was Universal Analytics (UA). Now when you create a new property it defaults to Google Analytics 4 which does not yet work with Poppyz. Some of it’s features are still being tested and we are making sure that everything will still track correctly. Our suggestion for now is to create properties under the UA type to keep on using Poppyz’s tracking features.

To do this, during the setup process click on the “Show Advanced Options” tab. And enable the Create a Universal Analytics property:
